Nerf Gun Cupcake Cake!!

Well this was a mixture of chocolate and white cupcakes. I arranged them in the shape of a gun iced them in buttercream. I made the image using a buttercream transfer. I was a little nervous to see how it would look once I pulled off the wax paper. I think it looked just like a nerf gun! I really liked the result. I would love to make these all the time. Cupcake Cakes are soo awesome for kids parties:)

  1. This will be the third time I try to write to you, new to blogger world. So this time I will be short, I have a few questions about your design if you are willing to share: What is the cupcake count in this design (I am counting between 24/26), Also how did you enlarge your image of the gun? I design cupcakes and use an image and enlarge it at Staples, but I ice each cupcake....I have NEVER done a butter cream transfer. I have made a lot over-the-top cakes for my son and my fate has been sealed, he thinks I can do anything with cupcakes and cakes, so glad he is young! Also my icing is 1 stick of unsalted butter, 1 block of cream cheese, & 2lbs confectioners sugar, would that work for this design? Any help you can give me would be awesome, thanks so much for your time,
    Erika

    1. I do apologize for the late response. I hadn't seen any comments on my page and had sort of left it abandoned if you will. :( But to answer your question I had an image flipped on my computer then enlarged at Staples such as you do. I lay a large piece of wax paper over it, lay it over a flexible cutting board so that you can move it around. I also tape it down so it won't slip. Then I have a crusting icing, if yours crusts it should be okay. I start by working on the small details first so that they don't get lost in the icing. I use small piping tips, round or flat works well. Then I move on to the larger color blocks. Once I am happy with my design I remove the original template and I cut it out so that I can arrange the cupcakes, remember your flipping it on top so take that into account. Freeze the buttercream for about an hour or two. Once I have the cupcakes arranged I frost them with my plain icing. After my buttercream is frozen I am able to flip over the cupcakes, peel off the back of the wax paper and press down so that it sticks to the cupcakes. You can smooth it out a little while your pressing it down. Hope that helps.
